Bundaberg Celtics Basketball Association Inc. in
association with Gooreng Gooreng Dancers Are excited to
present a feast of traditional Indigenous Culture as
represented by the local Aboriginal tribe the Gooreng
Gooreng Ohwhy (people) at the Blue Water Sports Club on
Saturday, September 11. The experience will include
food, art and dance distinct to Aboriginal culture.

Format for the Afternoon
12:00 noon Kuppa Murri Learn how to cook food
traditionally underground with Zebulon
1:00pm Basketball Fun Day Shoot hoops with the Celtics
Youth leaders and win prizes
2:00pm Watch the dancers get painted and learn about the
traditional markings and traditions. Kids can experience
the painting also
3:00pm Experience the ancient dances traditional to the
Gooreng Gooreng people and listen to Local Elder explain
the meanings to each dance. Kids can also learn one of
the dances
4:15pm Enjoy a magnificent feast cooked in Kuppa Murri
style which has to be tasted to be enjoyed. Includes
meat and vegetables. Also a delicious Kangaroo Curry
with rice.
All tickets must be Pre Purchased and are limited to 100
adults and 50 kids. Ticket price includes all activities
and shows and also a meal. Ticket Prices vary and are as
follows;
Adults : $25
Couple (2 adults) : $40
Kids (Under 18) : $12
Families (2 Adults and 2 Kids) : $50

A % of all proceeds go directly towards helping
Bundaberg teams attend the National Basketball
Championships.

Little One Super
Star Academy (English) Jukarneular Buri Toogoongool
Beerarlem (Gooreng)
All members of the community are invited to join this
program. Participants will develop core motor skills and
greater overall fitness.
The Celtics encourage everyone to take this opportunity
so we can build up the teams and create Intra Regional
competitions in the Greater Wide Bay Burnett Region.
Teams will be responsible for designing colour schemes
for uniforms and naming the teams using traditional
words from the Gooreng dictionary. There are also
opportunities for members of the community to help with
coaching in our Kipor (Youth) Development Program. Our
main goal for this program is to have teams representing
Bundaberg at the National Indigenous Basketball
Competition, Central Districts Carnivals and State
Classics.
Over 85 children have participated so far and are all
competent players. All beginner’s are most welcome just
pay a donation each session towards the Future of the
program.

The Future
Superstars League was a tremendous success during the 1st term of
2010
Many very promising players participated for 3 hours each Saturday
morning at the YMCA and learnt apart from Basketball skills about
healthy eating.

Most Valuable Players were awarded with a $50.00 bank
accounts from Wide Bay Australia Ltd. and were Adem Rohdmann - Boys MVP
and Skye Schoemann - Girls MVP

I started playing basketball in 2007 every Saturday at the
Future Superstars League. Then I was selected to join the U12
Bundaberg Bears Rep. Team. Later in the year I tried out for the
school zone team and made it. We travelled to Gympie for Wide
Bay trials and I was selected for the Wide Bay team. I now play
U14 rep and U14 and U16 club basketball on Friday nights and
will take part in the Superstar Academy.
Why did you decide to play basketball; Because it was
really fun to play at the Future Superstars League.
What you love about the Future Superstars League; We play
basketball games and learn new skills
Aspirations or goals for basketball; To be rep. captain
make the Qld. team and win MVP.

Superstar Academy and Youth Leadership Program
This program is funded through the Queensland Government’s Eat
Well Be Active Community Partnerships Program and gives the
participants an opportunity to excel in sport and life.
Participants are given full nutrition information and practical
meal preparation time so their athletic career can take off. We
include full strength and conditioning, pre game preparation and
post game recovery advice as well as elite basketball education.

Some of the Superstars
Professional tutelage for the up and coming leaders in our
community. Each Superstar has an opportunity to be developed as
a coach.
The Superstar Academy runs from 4pm til 6pm Thursday Nights at
the YMCA with the 1 hour cooking class starting at 6pm with
fully qualified chef Amanda Findlay.
Participants will need to be 10 years of age or older and be
invited to join.

Continue to improve basketball skills
Learn advanced game play
Complete pre and post game stretching routine
Injury prevention and management
Meditation Techniques
Full nutrition advice for athletes and parents
Actual cooking classes
Time management
All participants will be selected using the following criteria.

The Cost for this program is
$90.00 or $10.00 per night.
