ATW were in a
sound position at 4-122 in the div. 2 grand final
and still looked good at 6-156 and at 7-192 their
prospects were promising. Even with the last 3 batsmen
adding only 8 runs a total of 200 for the minor
premiers was a competitive score against Bolters who
scored 120 against Brothers Blue in the preliminary
final on Saturday. Bolters snuck in to the final after
restricting Blue to 110. Damien Noffke top scored with
52, Warwick Hawes scored 34 and Callum Stitt 33 while
Miles Donovan (21) and Dean Marles (20) made worthwhile
contributions. The pick of the Bolters bowlers was
Michael Lovett with 4-17 from eight overs.

Shaun Parter
Bolters were in trouble at 3-52 and were 4-101 when
Shaun Parter joined Michael Jensen at the crease.
Parter's arrival proved to be the turning point of the
match when he scored 89no. sealing the victory with a
massive six. Michael Jensen with 27 and Jason Welsh 25
were the next best.
Birthday boy Noel Stitt and Mitchell Waters were the
multiple wicket takers for Waves whose cause was not
helped by some undisciplined bowling particularly the
number of wides bowled. The future does look good for
Waves however as this side was dominated by the younger
brigade who have a great future in the game.

There was no fairy
tale ending for Country Wests in the Div 1 final after not
getting the start they would have craved. Scott Irwin, Steven
Nichols and Phil Proctor had departed with the score a
disappointing 36. Travis Henke and Mat Fleming put together
Country Wests best partnership of the match, one of 56 before
Henke who top scored with 55 was stumped by Jarrod Laycock off the bowling of David
Boge. Fleming and Murray Wenzel took the score to 124 before
Fleming was caught behind for 38.
After Boge captured the wicket of Wenzel for 15, Boyd Williams
came to the fore with a hat trick to have Country Wests on the
brink at 9-170. Number 7, Andrew Gear scored a quick fire 35no.
From 24 balls before Alistair Rathbone bagged the final wicket,
that of Luke Thomas for 7 with the score at 183. Williams again
demonstrated that he is the number 1 bowler in the competition
with 5-27 from his nine overs. Captain David Boge was the only
other multiple wicket taker with 2-45 from his ten overs.

Murray Wenzel scored 15 before being
out caught Boyd Williams
from the bowling of David Boge
Despite the early loss of opener Josh Nugent for 4, Mick Parsons
and Jarrod Laycock ensured that Brothers were in a commanding
position when Parsons was dismissed for 42 with the score at 77.
Brothers were in cruise mode from then on with Laycock scoring
29, David Boge a patient 20 from 76 balls while Chris Powell and
Chris Anderson remained not out with scores of 19 and 26
respectively. Mitchell Sartori was the other batsmen dismissed,
run out for 19. Braydon Graham and Mat Fleming took two wickets
apiece with Travis Henke taking the other.
All in all, it was a predictable result by a team which
dominated throughout the year.

The
Bundaberg Cricket Association Junior Finals have come and
gone for another year and the first thanks go to the cricket
gods for keeping the rain away so all games could be completed.
Congratulations to all teams who took part in finals, just
making a grand final is a big achievement it itself.
The under 16 final was a showdown between ATW and Brothers, and
most had our name on the trophy before a ball was bowled. This
was also the case five years earlier when the same two teams met
in the under 12's grand final and ATW were undefeated all year,
we lost. The following year ATW played Brothers in the grand
final, we were undefeated all year and won the final. The
following year ATW were undefeated and again played Brothers in
the grand final, we lost. Last year we played another and we won
that game so coming up against Brothers again, well I tell you I
was not taking anything for granted, in five years this team has
only lost two games in their age group and both were grand
finals.

Come game time both teams were ready and Brad and I shook hand
wished each other luck just like every other year and from that
point on it was up to the lads in the middle to do their best
and enjoy the moment. Brothers were first to bat and were put
under pressure from the start with tight and fast bowling from
openers David Fulton and Matt Gavin. At the 10 over mark I was
breathing a little easier with Brothers 1 for 20 and from that
point ATW were never really troubled.
Boyd Smith 41 and Ryan Norton 23 showed their ability but didn't
get a lot of support. Not taking anything away from Brothers,
it's just that our bowling and fielding was on song. Brothers
were all out for 95 in the 26th over, ATW bowlers were very good
and were supported by very good fielding, with only one
difficult chance going down. David 5 overs for 10, Matt 6 overs
2 for 6, Callum Stitt 5 overs 2 for 19, were the backbone of our
attack. Matt Morrall picked up 2 wickets and the spin king
Taylor Power did the rest. Taylor bowled 3.1 overs 2 maidens and
took 5 for 6 to clean the Brothers innings up, a wonderful
effort. Martyn Bates set a high standard behind the stumps
taking 2 catches and a stumping with his second catch
highlighting his ability with the gloves although he still needs
a little work as 1 bye did get past him.
ATW took to the crease and although things didn't go all our way
we reached the total with the loss of only 4 wickets. Ibby Zia
bowled very well and finished with 5 overs 3 maidens 1 for 4,
Boyd Smith took 1 for 17, Dan Fitzpatrick 1 for 29 and Dylan
Street 1 for 7. In a change the very talented Ryan Norton threw
the keeping gloves to Boyd and opened the bowling, and bowled
well finishing with 5 overs 0 for 16, not a bad effort but I do
feel he has an even big future behind the stumps.

All I can add is just to say thanks to our boys you were the
benchmark all year and deserved the win, to lose only two games
in your own age group in 5 years is testament to your ability.
Thanks to Scott and Craig for all their help throughout the year
and of course Noel Stitt.
Next year some of you will move to senior's, some stay at
juniors, but where ever you are playing good luck and thanks for
the wonderful memories
Geoff Bates
Thanks Geoff for your contributions throughout
the season.
