On the Greens with Jean Davis

The winning team of Geoff Loveday, Russell Ezzy and Peter Bryant came in with 59 1/6 in the last

Local round of the Holden Scramble generously sponsored by Ross Gray Holden also raising funds for the Special School. With 108 players we had to have a countback to split equal second place scores as only 2 teams go to the state finals. Ross and son Damien Noffke with Warren Kleidon and over Bruce Baker, Kevin Cherry and Greg McLeod.

Jennifer Ey, in what is usually a fourball score had 46 points all by herself in a single stableford last week while most of us struggled to sink our putts. Look out A grade!

Saturday Fred Lowe won first division with 42 points but 38 was shared by Peter Gaul, Wayne Dick, Brian Druitt and Val Nixon among the best scores.

Spring has brought some baby ducklings to the course but Thomas Hall on three and Andrew Martin on hole six impressed all with their eagles on Saturday.

Legacy Charity Day is this Saturday and there is a grand display of prizes so check that your friends are participating too.

The Restricted Foursomes Sunday 7th will be sponsored by Hughes Butchery this year and the combined handicaps must be at least 20. Register now.

Veterans play the return match of the Bungara Shield next Tuesday and we need more names on the sheet to regain the shield and bring it home to admire.

Ken Silcox and Rod Mason had success at the regional finals of the State Fourball at Hervey Bay last week when Silcox played the winning stroke out of the bunker from 30 metres to take the title by a stroke on 60.

Craig Lutz didn’t win in Fiji but played well on a tricky course against other state finalists. He says it’s the best five dollar investment he’s ever made.

No winning scores from our 30 ladies at Kingaroy but very close for some at the District Championships.

Bundaberg Junior Carnival is open to all juniors in this district on 21st of this month. Congratulations to improving junior Andrew Ikstrams who won the nett event of the Wide Bay Junior Open and Closed at Maryborough two weekends ago.

From now you have to get to .6 before your handicap goes to the next highest figure and men’s handicaps are extended to 36.4.

Slow Play No round of golf should take longer than 4 hours 15 minutes to complete. If you feel this pace is too fast, it is recommended you golf at a time when play is not so heavy. To reduce this problem some golfers will have to move faster than they have in the past, to ensure everyone has an enjoyable round of golf. Slow play is not caused by long rough, tricky greens or a bad slice. These are the challenges that give golf its appeal. Rather, slow play is the result of bad habits that waste time and impose a slower round on everyone.

Some Time Saver Hints:

1. Always be ready to hit
-proceed directly to your own ball
-take a practice swing and get set while others are hitting
-hit when ready, even simultaneously if you will not interfere with others
-carry a spare ball with you; if in doubt...hit a provisional
-know the rules of golf, especially those pertaining to out of bounds, water hazards and lost balls

2. Don't Waste Time
- never record your scores on or near the green
- don't leave your cart or bag in front of the green.
- give instructions on the driving range, not on the course
- carry an extra ball, tees and ball marker in your pocket
- play your shot once a group is realistically out of range
- if a ball is lost, play your shot BEFORE helping search
- lost ball, 5 minutes per group per hole, maximum time

3. On The Tee
- the first player ready to hit should
- other players should wait right next to the tee markers
- after hitting, be ready to proceed to your ball

4. On The Green
- park your cart and clubs in line with the next tee
- line up your putt before it is your turn
- follow the continuous putting rules until holed out, unless restricted by another player's line
