The Bingera Football Club
were fined $1000.00 and stripped of three competition points in
all senior grades, after a judiciary hearing at Martens Oval on
Thursday night. The Club, and one player were charged with
Breach of the Code of Conduct, bringing the game into disrepute
and severe verbal abuse of a match official after the conclusion
of a senior match. A player has been suspended from playing and
entering the grounds at Martens Oval until the 1st
June 2009.
The penalty sees Alloway replace Bingera at the top of the table
in the GIB Skin Care Ladies Competition.
Football Bundaberg and Football Queensland have stressed that
the abuse of officials will not be tolerated and that severe
penalties will apply where necessary.

A depleted
Bundaberg Toyota Spirit gave it their best shot but they
were beaten by a Raj Kumar hat-trick, going down to Redlands
City Devils 6-3 at Cleveland on Saturday night in their
rain-postponed 10th round clash to bring down the curtain on
their Queensland State League season. Needing to at least
draw to avoid the wooden spoon, the match was in the balance
when the Spirit hit back for the second time, with Jason De
Papi equalising at 2-2 in about the 30th minute.
But after Arian Dubroy was a late withdrawal due to illness,
joining top-shelf defender Andy Wood (work commitments) and
injured duo Kyle Taylor and Samir Bektas on the absentee
list, and with captain Brett Kitching and Aaron Bakker both
playing despite being under injury clouds and with just one
player on the bench, the fourth placed Devils had fresher
legs and they warmed up for the finals and put their stamp
on the match with two more unanswered goals leading into the
break.
However, the brave Spirit were the first to score in the
second stanza with vice-captain Laurie Stephenson completing
a personal double, but Acting Coach Richard Mitchell said
they then had “an absolute fantastic chance to make it
4-all’’. “But we never took it and the rest is history,’’
Mitchell said. “We weren’t 100% but we were down to the
bones with no more subs and Aaron Bakker aggravated his
injury but had to play on.’’ Mitchell labeled the
big-hearted Bakker as also their best. “Aaron missed a
couple of chances but he was always there with his presence,
although he was a bit of a passenger in the last 10-to-15
minutes when he was hurt. Also once again Kitch (Brett
Kitching) turned on the big engines in the middle of the
park, Laurie Stephenson was strong, and big Jason De Papi
also did okay, but overall, it was a good team
performance,’’ he said. “We conceded six but knocked in
three, and it was a punters’ delight with a lot of chances
by both sides.’’

Bundaberg also leaked six goals in their home clash with the
Devils at home back in the second round on 5th April, but
they did not score that night and Mitchell said their Coach
Peter Bannon, who is a “good friend’’ of his, commented on
the Spirit’s improvement. Despite being unable to climb out
of the cellar and conceding their most goals in a game since
that previous showdown with the Devils, the Spirit wound up
eighth of 10 in defence with 50 goals against, although they
had by far the worst attacking statistics with just 13 goals
in 18 matches. Their record reads three wins, one draw and
14 losses, but they were just two points behind eighth
seeded Logan United and one behind ninth place-getter
Whitsunday Miners.

Mitchell said that they were “all a bit disappointed to
finish bottom’’, but that he was “well pleased with the
boys’ attitude on and off the park’’. “We didn’t expect
anything great for the season, but their performance and the
effort of the lads don’t run parallel, and if we can hold
the side together, I think we can do a lot better next year
– the effort of the boys and the coaching staff has been
magic,’’ he said. “We haven’t spoken to the players about
next year yet, but none of them have said they won’t be
back, and the feeling in the dressing room was that yes, it
has been a tough season, but they have enjoyed it. “I’m
confident of getting all the lads back unless they have work
or family commitments - they have had the taste of it and
enjoyed it, and we will put in building blocks soon to
really get things rolling for next season.’’

Rachel Ratcliffe

Ten year old Rachel Ratcliffe from Childers is enjoying her
first year in the game. It has been a big couple of weeks
for Rachel who was named player of the match last week and
followed up by scoring her first ever goal on Saturday.
This busy Miss is involved in Little A’s with the long jump
her specialty, trains in karate and is a keen dancer with
hip hop and jazz her favourites. At school, Art is her
subject of choice.
Coach Donna Dilger said “ Rachel is enthusiastic, trains
hard and loves the game”

Waves proved to be the dominant club in
men’s soccer, bagging premierships in all three divisions.
To top it off Elliott Causer and Mick Giovannoni each don
‘golden boots’.
Lyal Darby, once a promising young soccer player has been
named the Bundaberg Rugby League A Grade Player of the Year
Lou Tominich is not exactly the last of the real romantics.
He took wife Kim to Martens Oval on Friday night to
celebrate her 51st birthday. Happy birthday Kim.
The Brothers Brown, Matt and Craig have scored 11 goals this
season with matt scoring 8. Craig claims it his job to make
Matt look good – yeah sure!
Moore Park hope to field teams in both 2nd and 3rd div. in
2009. Have to wonder how many of the ‘pussy cats’ will take
the step up? Anyone interested in a run should contact ‘top
cat’ Bruce Leslight.
290 different players scored goals in the senior men’s
competition in three divisions, while in the ladies (two
divisions) there were 118.
David Smith, President of Brothers Aston Villa waited until
the last game of the season proper to score his first goal.
Actually Dave scored two, but the first had to be retaken
from the penalty spot.

Finals

The drama
continued at Martens Oval on Friday night when despite
beating Moore Park 3-2, Waves were advised that they would
forfeit the match having played a suspended player. It was
claimed the player had received his fourth yellow for the
season which is an automatic one week suspension. The player
concerned had been carded (yellow) on the 14th March, 11th
July and the 29th August. The player had also been red
carded on the 13th June and had received a yellow card in
Div 2 on the 26th July being the fourth yellow.
Rule 12.4 of the Bundaberg CA Playing Rules states states
that a) The Accrued Caution system shall apply to the CA. b)
Cautions are accrued separately in each Division; however
upon suspension the Player is ineligible in any Match until
midnight on the last day of the suspension as stated on the
players suspension notice".
Assuming that the information I have regarding cards issued
to the player are correct Waves will play ATW Colts in the
Preliminary Final next Friday. A decision will be made
Saturday when the registrar will review the situation.

Waves flexed their
muscles at home against Villa on Sunday, and with
players expected to return for the finals will go into the
Qualifying Semi Final against Alloway in good shape. Villa
were first to score through Joe Bassard, but from then on
Waves dominated the match scoring the next nine goals.
Elliott Causer scored three goals which saw him snatch the
‘golden boot’ from Alloway’s Brenden Banks. Dale Hassam was
the other multiple scorer for Waves with a double.

Jack Brillante
Alloway received a wake up call when beaten 3-0 by a Bingera
side showing form at the right end of the season. At times
Alloway appeared disinterested and will need to regroup for
the clash with Waves this weekend. John Dixon and Brenden
Banks were absentees, and this pair along with Andy Davis
and Danny Tucker set to return this weekend will need to
perform. One player said “finals football is different, we
need to stick to the game plan and work to our strengths –
we will be ready”

Jayson Blackwell
Bingera put in probably one of their best games of the
season, were usually first to the ball and utilized veteran
Warren Brough, who scored three goals, to the fullest. Shane
Youngberry, who played at centre-mid and was among Bingera’s
best, provided the go forward that has been missing for most
of the season. Youngberry could provide the spark Bingera
need to see them threaten all sides above them in the
finals.
Diggers had few worries in accounting for a valiant Burnett
Heads 4-0, however their finals campaign was not helped when
Paul Barlow received a yellow card which will see him miss
next weeks game against Bingera. Burnett Heads keeper Ali
Kasciji was red carded for striking Barlow, with Barlow
receiving a yellow from the incident and accrued enough
points to ensure he misses next weeks match. Diggers will
also be without Michael White who is working in Mt. Isa, and
like Alloway will need to regroup if they hope to progress
from the elimination semi. Coach Nathan Darlington said “It
was a good hard game and a good hit out before the finals,
which are a totally different game”
Richard Brown and Mitchell Rehbein had strong games for
Diggers, while Michael Tominich, Kagan Eren and Karl Rann
stood out for Burnett Heads.
